Option 1: Dyslexia Screening for age 5 and above
When a child is between the ages of 5 and 8, they are in a crucial stage of their literacy development. While every child learns at their own pace, some may show early signs of difficulty with skills like rhyming, letter sounds, or reading. A dyslexia screening for this age group is a proactive and gentle way to get an early indication of a child's learning profile.
Aged above 8 a dyslexia screening is a crucial first step in identifying a learner's potential strengths and areas for development. Unlike a full diagnostic assessment, a screening provides a quick and effective early indication of a persons literacy profile. It uses a series of tailored tests to assess a range of skills.
This screening is a valuable initial step that can highlight potential risk factors for dyslexia. It's not a formal diagnosis, but it provides a clear picture of a child's strengths and weaknesses. Following the screening, you will receive a computer generated report with an Early Dyslexia Diagnostic Index (EDDI), which helps inform whether further support or a full assessment may be beneficial.
Screening takes approximately 30 minutes, and you will be provided with a printed report.

Option 2: Dyslexia screening plus one other test
The screening plus another standardised test based on your specific needs:
If your child needs extra support with learning phonics then I would suggest the CTOPP-2 assessment which will show strengths and weaknesses across a range of tests that assess phonological processing skills. This will help to form a picture of what their learning profile is, and will provide evidence based data about their performance compared to peers their age.
The DASH-2 test analyses the speed of handwriting and consists of five subtests designed to pinpoint exactly where the writing breakdown occurs. Results can lead to recommendations such as extra time in exams, use of a laptop and classroom strategies. When exams adjustments are needed the school will need to show the student has had this adjusted way of working as their normal way of working. If handwriting difficulties are recognised early, then adjustments can be in place long before exam time, and may help in terms of gaining confidence and improving grades. Schools will still need to assess for access arrangements, and this is a good early step that can be used as evidence that adjustments have been in place a long time before the exam takes place.
To understand a student's literacy profile, I offer the TOD-C assessment—the most wide-ranging selection of tests in my practice. The TOD-C benchmarks a student's skills against national age-matched peers across reading/spelling, linguistic processing, and vocabulary reasoning. Rather than just identifying difficulties, this testing directly drives practical outcomes. Following the assessment, I provide concrete recommendations which may include specific phonics or morphological interventions, specialised teaching strategies, and the data required to justify exam accommodations like text-to-speech software or additional time. It is important to note that this is not an exam access arrangements assessment, however it will provide the evidence that recommendations are in place as a part of their normal practice.
Prior to this option I require the return of a parent survey.
£195 - including screening, one other standardised test, and a detailed, personalised report with recommendations.
Option 3: Screening, one other standardised test, plus personalised strategies based upon gaps in knowledge.
Beyond the initial screening, I also provide a comprehensive screening service for the 5 year old and above. Over the course of up to 3 hours, I will work through a series of detailed activities designed to pinpoint specific strengths and areas for growth. Following the session, you will receive a short report that clearly outlines any early gaps and provides targeted recommendations for practical strategies you can use at home or in school.
Prior to this option I require the return of a parent survey.
£325 - including screening, 2-3 hours working with the student, and an additional personalised report with suggested next steps.
Tutoring
Tutoring Sessions (face to face) will be available soon.
Sessions will be offered either as 1-hour slots at £50 per hour, providing focused and structured support. These are usually 45 minutes of activities, with 15 minutes available to celebrate success, discuss next steps and answer any questions. Or these can be split into 2 x 30 minute slots for students who need support to stay focussed.
The first 2 to 3 sessions will focus on getting to know your child’s skills, strengths, and areas that need development.
These sessions will be held face-to-face in Basildon, Essex.
When booking tutoring the first 2 weeks of sessions can be paid for individually as trial sessions.
Assessment
I am a qualified Test User, formally registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU). While assessments I administer are not currently eligible for use in supporting Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) applications, they provide a detailed profile of an individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This data offers valuable insight into specific learning challenges and informs targeted support strategies.
Please note that I will be expanding my practice to offer full diagnostic assessments in the near future.
